Sony outs new waterproof HDR-GW77V Handycam, available May 25th in Japan

Sony outs new waterproof HDR-GW77V Handycam, available May 25th in Japan (video)

Despite having launched a full battalion of Handycams back at CES, Sony left the adventurous crowd out by not introducing any ruggedized shooters. With that in mind, the Japanese outfit has taken the wraps off of its first waterproof (and dustproof) Handycam, which packs a mouthwatering 20.4-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor capable of 1080p video at 60fps. Staying true to its Handycam roots, the HDR-GW77V sports a 3-inch swivel screen while also offering 16GB of internal storage and a 10x optical zoom. Sony claims the camcorder can handle up to 16 feet of water as well as sustain a five-foot freefall. The HDR-GW77V will be hitting Japanese shelves late next month for 70,000 yen (around $860), and there's no word on when -- or if -- it'll make a trip outside its home turf.

In Ticketing increases options for venues and promoters, as long as they're using iOS

Image

Converting a cellphone into a credit card reader is nothing new, but transforming one into a box office for live events could shake things up a bit -- or, at least provide a bit of friendly competition for NFC-based alternatives. In Ticketing has just launched InHand Box Office software for use at live events. The company claims to be one of the greener ticketing outfits out there, and plans to turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a device capable of wirelessly processing payments (and printing out paper receipts, unlike Square or PayPal Here) at independently run concerts or festivals. Potentially reducing time spent in line and preventing congestion at the entrance translates into more people inside the venue, and using your phone instead of a difficult-to-establish credit card merchant account should reduce the friction in throwing such an event. As long as you tend to carry the appropriate iDevice with In Ticketing's new app installed, you can marry it to that iAPS Sled you see above to create your own personal CC processing machine. The only issues? Convincing Gotye to play your house party instead of Coachella next year, and that awkward lack of support for Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.

Gym Class Heroes Go For Olympic Glory In 'Fighter' Video

Band takes MTV News behind the scenes of upcoming clip, which stars Olympic hopeful John Orozco.

In previous videos, Gym Class Heroes have shown off their "mutant powers," gone gritty, and even gotten in touch with their inner Lucius Blacks.

But in their upcoming clip for "The Fighter," they're taking a different tack: They're getting real.

"The video is part documentary-style, part-performance [and] it follows the life of John Orozco, a young, up-and-coming, hopefully gold medalist from the Bronx," GCH frontman Travie McCoy told MTV News on the set of the video. "Plus, an awesome, energetic performance from us and Ryan Tedder."

Orozco's story — from a talented Bronx gymnast to training at the U.S. facility in Colorado Springs to perhaps this country's best chance of snagging a gold at the London Olympics — has already caught the attention of outlets like the New York Times, and GCH are hoping their new video will only add to his profile. And provide a soundtrack to his success too.

"Ryan did his thing on the hook, he adds the extra punch," McCoy said. "And with the Olympics and stuff coming up, I think it's going to be the anthem for a lot of people to get pumped up to."

Of course, there are other benefits to having one of the most hotly tipped Olympic hopefuls star in your new video. Namely, you can let someone else stand beneath the spotlight, which, thankfully, takes the pressure off the Heroes and their less-than-stellar acting chops.

"It's great doing a video like this because I feel like a lot of other videos we shoot, we end up sticking to somewhat of a script and act," drummer Matt McGinley laughed. "And I mean, I'm a musician, so it's great to be doing what comes natural."

Are you looking forward to the Heroes' upcoming video? Tell us in the comments!

Why Skin Cleansing is an Important Part of Your Skin Care Regimen

It is important to take good care of your skin to keep skin blemishes away and maintain your good looks. A spotless, fresh and radiant skin grabs attention. However, it is not easy to keep your skin looking healthy at all times. You must use the right type of skin care products that are ideal for your type of skin. A sensitive skin cleanser of a reputable brand can be the first step in improving the appearance of your skin.

? Why Cleansing is so Important

You can find skin products created for your type of skin easily in any cosmetic store. Using a sensitive skin cleanser will help in removing the impurities and dirt that lie deep within the skin pores. It is a misnomer that washing your face vigorously with cold water will remove all the grime. Skin cleansers have natural ingredients that remove deep settled dirt which ordinary soap and water cannot.

You must avoid using products containing ingredients that can turn out to be harsh on your skin.

Such products can take away any essential oils along with the grime, leaving your skin looking dry and unhealthy.

Cleansing is just one part of the beauty regimen and prepares your skin to receive the anti aging skin serum. If you have noticed lines and wrinkles making their appearance around your eyes, lips and forehead area, do not press the panic button. They are not always due to aging factors but can also happen because of excessive exposure of your skin to the sun and the elements. The best wrinkle filler cream available in the market can minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and restore the youthful appearance of your skin.

? The Numerous Advantages of Skin Cleansing

Coming back to skin cleansing, there are many advantages of using a sensitive skin cleanser.

They help remove makeup, oil and dirt from your skin quickly. It also helps in removing dead skin and breathes new life into your skin cells. Exposure to pollutants may congest your skin pores and make them look dull and lifeless. The radiance associated with a youthful, lively skin will not be seen in such conditions. Deep cleansing with quality products can make your skin appear fresh and vibrant.

Cleansing of your skin can help in freeing them of bacterium which can cause skin ailments. The cleansing process keeps you skin pores unclogged. This allows the skin to breathe in oxygen and improve its appearance. Dermatologists recommend cleansing at least twice daily; in the morning and before you retire for the day.

The night time skin cleansing is regarded as more important because it removes all the dirt, grime and pollutants that have accumulated on the skin throughout the day. It also helps remove all traces of makeup. Do not use skin cleansing products that contain harsh abrasives. Contrary to their claims, they do not make your skin look cleaner than a sensitive skin cleanser. Quality products from reputable manufacturers must be used to avoid developing skin problems. Check the ingredients list before you buy a skin cleanser.

LMFAO Laugh Off Breakup Rumors In New Video

RedFoo and Sky Blu respond to New York Post report that they were at odds over money made from their chart-topping singles.

Looks like the "Party Rockin" will not be ending anytime soon.

LMFAO have fired back at a recent New York Post report that the Grammy-nominated duo were on the verge of a breakup over money made from their chart-topping singles. On Monday, the group released a video on RedFoo's YouTube page rebutting all reports that the bandmates were hanging up their party hats.

The clip starts off with Sky Blu, clad in a spiked bedazzled jacket, telling the audience, "Sky Blu back! I feel good, man." Soon after, he is joined by RedFoo, his uncle, who is holding a copy of Thursday's New York Post.

"You see the stuff they wrote in the New York Post? The crazy stuff, let me read it to you," RedFoo said. Yet, before he could read the report, Sky Blu grabs the paper and the two begin to fight for it. The two go back and forth until they join together dancing and shred the paper while proclaiming, "Every day we're tusslin', " referring to "Party Rock Anthem" and the Post headline, "Duo: Every day I'm tusslin'."

They went on to promote their upcoming 26-date summer tour, RedFoo and Cherrytree Present: Sorry for Party Rocking Tour Featuring LMFAO and the Party Rock Crew and Special Guests, which kicks off May 22 in Columbus Ohio. Those special guests include Far East Movement, the Quest Crew, Sidney Samson, Eva Simons and Natalia Kills. The tour will mark the return of Sky Blu, who had suffered from a severe back injury, which forced him to miss some tour dates.

LMFAO recently performed for the first time on "American Idol," where they energized the crowd with an electrifying performance of "Sorry for Party Rocking."

Are you excited for the Sorry for Party Rocking Tour? Let us know in the comments.

Levon Helm and The Band: a rock parable of fame, betrayal, and redemption

Levon Helm of The Band found an unlikely path back to fame after decades of disappointment. But by the end, the homespun singer from Turkey Scratch, Ark., had come full circle.

In the eight years preceding his death Thursday, Levon Helm enjoyed the highest distinction that any music veteran could hope for: an audience that remembers.

Two recent Grammy awards had brought a resurgence of interest in Mr. Helm?s career as the voice and drummer of The Band, one of rock?s most enduring groups. But it was only in 2004, when he began his homespun ?Midnight Ramble? concerts, that he began to reemerge into the public eye following years of health and financial problems, as well as lingering disappointment and resentment surrounding the dissolution of his former band.

Indeed, much of Helm?s story is a parable of rock ?n? roll ? the story of a band fractured by money and fame, leaving its disillusioned members to pick of the pieces of lives that had seemed to promise something more.

In that way, Helm?s musical legacy is not one meticulously groomed by publicists or biographers. It has evolved organically through what he has left behind.

His appeal in The Band and to Bob Dylan, who collaborated with the group during his most fruitful years, has not just been his voice but also his insurgent spirit. After all, the late-1960s marked the transition from presenting pop music as audible candy for teens to a progressive art form. While the Beatles represented a breakthrough in pushing boundaries that were heady and abstract, The Band later represented their American counterpart, which was dangerous, unkempt, and with a profound feel for, and understanding of, blues, gospel, and country.

That understanding came largely from Helm?s biography. The only American in a group of Canadians, he grew up in Turkey Scratch, Ark., as the son of cotton farmers. Many of the references in classic Band songs came from the people he knew and the sounds he heard in his childhood. Blues great Sonny Boy Williamson performed regularly in the area, and traveling minstrel shows and rockabilly bands made frequent stops.

Helm ?couldn?t wait to get out of high school and get off the farm. His dad told him he couldn?t play with bands until he finished high school.? All he was doing was biding his time,? says Anna Lee Amsden, Helm?s lifelong friend and the ?Anna Lee? in the lyrics of ?The Weight,? the group?s classic song. ?Crazy Chester? and ?Carmen,? other familiar characters in the song, were also people Helm knew in town, Ms. Amsden says.

In a statement Friday, Mr. Dylan called Helm "one of the last true great spirits of my or any other generation."

Much of The Band?s identity ? as suggested by its name ? was in being a true collective where no single person stood out. The Band?s 1968 debut, ?Music From Big Pink,? reflected that unity. Despite vocals shared by Helm, Richard Manuel, and Rick Danko, no one singer was identified, and the lyrics weren?t even printed on the jacket. The magic of that music came from a special alchemy among those individuals that could never be achieved separately since.

Yet in what is now a storied pattern from the early days of the music business, camaraderie crumbled amid fame. Robbie Robertson, The Band?s lead guitarist, joined with the band?s management to persuade the others to sign away their individual publishing rights, which in today?s era of multiplatform media are considered the pension plans of the music industry. They ensure artists later income when the songs receive renewed life in movies, television, and beyond.

In his autobiography ?This Wheel?s On Fire,? Helm describes seeing a copy of the 1969 album ?The Band? and noticing he was credited for writing only half of one song, with Mr. Robertson credited on all 12.

?Someone had pencil-whipped us. It was an old tactic: divide and conquer,? he writes.

Things got worse in 1978 when director Martin Scorsese, who collaborated with Robertson on the film ?The Last Waltz,? reinforced what Helm said was a false narrative that Robertson was somehow the band?s auteur.

Investors Who Gave Groupon, Like, A Billion Dollars Get Closer To, Like, Breaking Even

andrew-mason-groupon1Remember when Groupon raised, like, a billion dollars? We certainly do. Well, it looks like Groupon's slide over the past month is bringing its last round of venture investors ever closer to breaking even. The stock has rebounded slightly this morning to $11.49, but the number to watch is $7.90. That's effectively what several top-tier Silicon Valley venture firms including Kleiner Perkins, Greylock and Andreessen Horowitz paid per share when they invested $946 million in Groupon between December 2010 and January 2011. At that point, they bought Series G Preferred Shares for $31.59 each. These later converted into four shares of common stock on October 31 of last year, just a few days before Groupon's initial public offering on November 4.
